Puppy Proof FirstPuppy proof your house before bringing home your Berner. Shoes, socks and other items should never be left lying around for your puppy to chew on. If a puppy chews on something left lying around, it is your fault and not the puppy's! Crate TrainingWe strongly recommend crate training as the easiest, most effective method of housebreaking your puppy. Keep Safety in Mind with Puppy Toys & TreatsPuppy toys and treats should be safe and not contain squeakers or small parts that could catch in the throat. Puppies need to chew things while they teeth and can chew things up more quickly than expected, so you should always supervise your puppy while it plays with anything that is not edible. Although several companies make great relatively safe chew toys (such as Nylabone and Booda), there is always the one puppy or dog that will "eat" the supposedly indestructable toy.
